A Day in the Life of an Estate Agent (It’s Not All Sold Signs & Selfies)
Ever wonder what it’s really like to be an estate agent?
Spoiler: it’s not all sold signs, champagne, and swanning around fancy houses.
It’s early mornings, late nights, lots of driving, and never really switching off.
So, here’s a little peek behind the scenes of a typical day in my world.
Morning Routine
The alarm goes off at 5:50am—painful, I know. First job of the day? Walking the dog at 6. I’m back around 6:45, and the kettle goes straight on. Quick scroll through emails (because being self-employed means you’re always working), then breakfast at 7. By 7:45 I’m showered, dressed, and out the door by about 8:30.
Office Life Begins
I usually get to the office for 8:50-ish. First job: check the diary and plan out who’s doing what. Viewings, valuations, photos, inspections—you name it, we’ve probably got it booked. Then it’s time for a coffee before the phones start ringing and the emails start piling up!
Midday Madness
Late morning to early afternoon is always busy. From viewings to valuations, property inspections, catching up with solicitors, chasing mortgage brokers—it’s non-stop. There’s usually a quick lunch grabbed in between appointments, often in the car or at my desk.
Out and About
Afternoons are for appointments—viewings, meetings with landlords, taking photos of new listings, and checking in on properties. It’s go, go, go. And even when I’m in the car, I’m usually making calls, checking in with clients, or planning the next move for a sale.
Admin & Emails
Back at the office around 4 or 5, I catch up on admin—sending feedback to sellers, replying to emails, confirming viewings, updating listings, following up leads… the list is never-ending.
Evening Grind (Yes, it’s still going)
The laptop’s back open most evenings. Whether it’s typing up new property details, replying to messages I missed during the day, or prepping for tomorrow, there’s always something to do. That’s the self-employed life—your brain never really clocks off.
What People Don’t See:
-
Chasing solicitors for updates
-
Writing up listings at 9pm
-
Getting soaked during a rainy viewing
-
Explaining leasehold to buyers... again
-
Emails… so. many. emails.
